This is a Piper's Aid to reading, understanding and playing the "Big" Music (Ceol Mor) of the Great Highland Bagpipe using many of the original methods of instruction devised by Major Cairns during the 75 years he has studied, played and taught piobaireachd.

He received his tuition from his father, Pipe Major John Knox Cairns, Pipe Major John Wilson and, mainly, from Captain John MacLellan, MBE.

Major Cairns recorded 60 Audio Examples of movements / exercises with correct and incorrect sounds on the Practice Chanter, with written examples from 19 different tunes.
